File Transfer Protocol

Postby phulkoli » Sun Nov 14, 2010 10:32 am

How do I prevent fragmentation during a HUGE FTP process on Windows? When we run a HUGE FTP process onto a Windows server the disk fragmentation goes very high. We have 4 - 5 FTPs running at the same time which causes a large amount of fragmentation to occur. This create a lot of performance problems on the disk.

On the Windows platform, I am afraid that the disk fragmentation is hard to prevent. You need to defrag every a few days to reduce the fragmentation.
If performance and fragmentation is your main concern, and you are familiar with the Linux/Unix system, their file system is probably a better choice for you.
