Mac OS - Run CrossFTP Server as daemon/service ON port 21

Postby TC10284 » Fri Feb 12, 2010 3:50 am

All,

I am desperately in need of a better (free) FTP solution. I came across CrossFTP. It does what I need, it's full of features, yet not complex, and free. The ONLY issue I'm having is that it won't run on port 21 by default. I've read the forums and I understand that normal users in Linux/Mac OS can't bind to a low port below 1024. However, I MUST have this ability as I need it to be as simple as possible for users to connect to it. I can get it to work if I run the Cross FTP .app after I do an su - at the terminal. It will bind to port 21.

What I need to do is find out a way to get CrossFTP to start as a service or daemon before logging in. Is this possible? If so, where do I begin?

Thank you very much for your time.

The service package we used is the Java service wrapper available at http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/e ... wnload.jsp
Currently we only predefined the daemon/service package available for Windows and Linux. There is no Mac package yet.
