The setup looks fine. You should be able to connect to the server's command channel. Please paste the full error logs from the FTP client to identify the problem.

apparently there is more to this than i thought. dont know if you looked at the thread over at port forward but it has gotten a little complex and im not sure i know enough to get it to work. it may be over my head.

i thought i already posted the error logs but maybe we are talking about 2 different things.

Can you paste the logs before that two lines?
i.e., the logs before "Operation timeout"?

im pretty sure all it says is "connecting to mydomain" but i will look again when i get home tonight.
