install crossftp server on linux

Postby bd54338rre » Fri Dec 26, 2008 10:16 pm

this is the first time for me to install java based applications on my fedora 10 pc.

when i perform as NON-root:
javaws crossftpserver.jnlp

a installation procedure starts

however,,i cancelled it because of a doubt.
Do i have to be root or NO root to install this, and other java based applications?

thanks

Thanks for the question. You can run CrossFTP Server either by normal user, or by the root. The difference these two is the permission. Root user can open any available port, but the normal user can only open the port that is higher than 1024. Another difference is that their read/write permission on the files system are different. This should be familiar to the linux/Unix users. You can change the file read/write permission by chmod command in your bash.

How do you add pictures to ipod touch through ftp client? I've already got the ftp client and everything sorted I just want to know where the pictures directory is. Before you answer please read the question and don't mention syncing please. Thanks in advance.
